Forward (1986-1991)
While playing basketball at St. Mary’s, Steven O’Keefe helped lead the team to several NAIA National Tournament appearances and the coveted NAIA National Championship in 1989.
During his senior season, he averaged 13.1 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game to earn All-American Honorable Mention and All-District IV honors. He also earned All-Conference his senior and junior seasons.
O’Keefe remains highlighted in the record books as he is No. 5 in career rebounds with 764 and is second in career games played with 125. He is also No. 8 in single-season rebounds with 294 his senior season.
He frequently made headlines with outstanding play, including one game in which he scored 16 points, grabbed 18 rebounds and blocked three shots. During his junior season, he tallied 25 points and 12 boards to lead St. Mary’s to an emotional victory over Texas Lutheran University, catapulting the Rattlers into first place early in the conference season.
He graduated with a degree in criminal justice in 1991.
