The goal of the athletic training staff at St. Mary’s University is to provide quality medical care for student athletes. Each member of the athletic training team works to help provide education, prevent injury, evaluate injuries, provide care and assistance for athletes with injuries, and rehabilitate those injuries. Providing the athletes with an understanding of how to prevent injuries and if an injury occurs, helping the athlete through the process of returning to play are top priorities of the athletic training staff. Along with taking care of student athletes injuries, they also have leadership, professional and administrative duties such as insurance responsibilities, record keeping and documentation.
They are committed to developing and maintaining unparalleled athletic training facilities and to staff these facilities with highly qualified and motivated personnel whose foundation is built on the utmost ethical standards.
The Rattler athletic training room allows easy access to athletic training services to student-athletes. They do encourage a philosophy of sports that places a high value on health and wellness. Their job is dedicated to enabling injured student-athletes to return to their sports in a safe, appropriate manner while trying to allow the athlete reach his/her physical and mental potential.
Equipment is state-of-the-art and is continually upgraded to stay abreast of the rapidly changing field of sports medicine. Besides the traditional hydrotherapy whirlpools, equipment includes: ultrasound, electrical muscle stimulation, interferential stimulation, intermittent compression, TENS, oscillation therapy, hydrocollator units, Game Ready, slideboards, and numerous other rehabilitation equipment.
