Shortstop (1999-2002)

Natalie Hill ended her St. Mary’s career in made-for-TV fashion. For that matter, her entire career was fit for the big screen, starting it all off as the Conference Freshman of the Year in 1999. But on the biggest of stages her senior year, Hill, on her very last play as a Rattler, logged the final out that sealed the Rattlers the 2002 NCAA Division II National Championship. It was a fitting end for a player who enjoyed four years of excellence on the Rattlers’ diamond.

The shortstop earned numerous honors throughout her career. She was honored as a First Team All-American and was First Team All-Region her junior and senior years. Hill was also All-Conference for three seasons and named NAIA All-Southwest Region her first year. Upon entering the NCAA, Hill held the single-season record for the Heartland Conference for most assists and was a member of the National Championship All-Tournament team and All-Region Tournament team twice. She also excelled off the field as an NCAA Academic All-American and Scholar Athlete three of her four seasons.

Hill graduated as the career leader in numerous statistical categories, many of which she still holds today. She ranks fourth all-time with 238 hits, logging a .369 batting average and a .513 slugging percentage over her four years at St. Mary’s. Having started 208 games, the ninth most of any Rattler, she crossed home plate 168 times. A record at the time she left St. Mary’s, Hill’s total runs scored still stands third in the record books, while her 241 career hits still rank fourth. In addition, she tallied 127 RBIs, 44 doubles, 13 triples and 44 stolen bases.

Most impressively, though, were the wins she helped the Rattlers accumulate, including that fabled national championship a decade ago.
