St. Mary’s University Athletics is used to making its mark in competition, but the Rattlers might shine brightest when impacting the local community.

In some of their most memorable moments of service in recent years, Rattler teams across 11 sports have made it a special priority to spend time with some of their biggest supporters, the Marianist Brothers of St. Mary’s.
The Rattlers have shared dinner with the Brothers at the Marianist Residence on campus, swapping life stories and finding commonalties and bonds.
Rattler Softball made sure to hang out with the Brothers for added good luck and support before winning the Heartland title and advancing to the Super Regional for the first time since 2005.
But the Rattlers’ time with the Brothers is only one aspect of their service.
St. Mary’s Basketball has hosted a
Teddy Bear Toss while Rattler Volleyball held its
annual Breast Cancer Awareness Match last season.
Women’s Basketball also become role models for
students at Gilbert Elementary in recent years and spent the spring of 2017 reading books to the children of Tulsa, Oklahoma, site of the Heartland Conference Championships. Men’s Basketball has also made habit of hosting its
annual Operation Drive the Basket.
Women’s Soccer gave tricks and treats at the
Halloween Parade at the pediatrics ward of University Hospital while Volleyball recently hosted its first
Book Drive during National Book Month.
Each of Rattler Athletics’ 11 sports participated in
Continuing the Heritage and
Rattler Move-In, including Men’s Soccer and Rattler Baseball.
Both Men’s and Women’s soccer also held its
first-ever Free Youth Clinic at the all-new Sigma Beta Chi Field while Rattler Tennis’ Michael Maciel hosted his own
Free Tennis Clinic.
St. Mary’s University Athletics prides itself on far more than just athletic excellence. The Rattlers hold value to community service and realize the impact they can have on society. Rattler Athletics is proud to continue its tradition of giving back in the upcoming seasons.
