St. Mary's Athletics Hall of Fame
Jesse DeLee, M.D., attended the University of Texas at Austin for two years, then went on to Lamar College, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in 1967. He attended medical school at the UT Medical Branch at Galveston and finished his M.D. in 1970.
He became a trusted friend of St. Mary’s athletes when he took over as team physician in 1980 and stayed as such for over 20 years. De Lee also has established himself as a prominent local and national figure, both in medicine and philanthropy. He co-authored “Orthopedic Sports Medicine Principles and Practices,” the accepted textbook worldwide for sports medicine education.
The De Lee/Evans Scholarship Foundation awards $15,000 a year to students pursuing degrees in medicine, athletic training or physical therapy.
