One of the most prolific hitters in Heartland Conference history, Liz Beyer will forever remain the home runs leader for the now-defunct league. She spent all four years playing in the HC, though only two with the Rattlers, hitting 63 long balls — 20 more than the next closest athlete. She hit 40 of those home runs at St. Mary’s, earning back-to-back NFCA All-American status. In her first year with the Rattlers, Beyer’s former team walked her five times in a single game, fearing her bat and setting a Heartland Conference record in the process. The 2005 Conference Co-Player of the Year also owns the school’s career slugging percentage record (.803), ranks third all-time in on-base percentage (.482) and is fourth in batting average (.402). Beyer was also a threat in the classroom, earning CoSIDA Academic All-District and NFCA Scholar-Athlete honors in her senior campaign.
Currently:
Beyer coached high school softball and taught upon graduation until 2017. At that time, she felt the Lord calling her home to the family business, Beyer Plumbing, where she is now the Vice President.
Quote:
“Transferring to StMU in 2002 was the best thing I ever did. I only wish I would have attended straight out of high school. I always had goals, athletically and personally, but I never equipped and/or positioned myself well enough to achieve them. It wasn't until I met Coach Fields that I began to not only talk about what I wanted to accomplish but also knew what it meant/looked like to work toward them. I was also pushed academically. I had to learn to study, read, and apply myself in a way I never had before. I firmly believe that StMU and the softball program prepared me for future careers. It isn't the only reason I am the person I am today, but it is a huge part.”
