St. Mary's Athletics Hall of Fame
Played Basketball for the Rattlers from 1968-70 after concluding his military career in 1967. Went on to become the first black head coach in college basketball in Texas, joining UT Arlington initially as an assistant before becoming Head Coach in 1976. Under LeGrand’s leadership, UTA recorded its first 20-win season and saw its first National Invitation Tournament in 1981. He also helped lay the foundation for the university’s wheelchair basketball program, originally known as the Freewheelers before becoming the Movin’ Mavs. In 1987, he transitioned to counseling, where he remained until his retirement in 2011.
