Jack Finger’s involvement and dedication to St. Mary’s athletics has a long history extending beyond the playing field. A letterman shortstop for three years and the captain of St. Mary’s 1948 baseball team, Finger represented the same intuition and selflessness off the field as he did on the field.

In 1946, Finger led the effort to initiate varsity baseball at St. Mary’s and in the 1950s, he organized former Rattler baseball players to play exhibition games against the varsity team and also actively supported the St. Mary’s Athletic Booster Club.

Finger graduated from St. Mary’s in 1948 with a B.A. in English and a B.B.A. in general business administration. His passion for Rattler athletics continued when he later encouraged and personally paid for the research and production of two volumes of history of St. Mary’s Athletics dating back to the 1930s. In 2005, Finger also wrote an article titled, “St. Mary’s University Varsity Baseball – How It All Began,” detailing Rattler baseball in its infancy.
