Point Guard (1983-1985)
In two seasons as a Rattler, Darren Brunson made a big impact. During his time as point guard, he was named Big State Conference Honorable Mention and was the recipient of the Brother Walter Puckett, S.M. Hustle Award. He finished fourth in the St. Mary’s career assists record with 478 and second in career assist average at 7.5 assists (64 games). During both of his two seasons, he totaled 239 assists each year to hold the fifth spot for single-season assists record and is fourth for the single-season assists average at 7.5 assists both seasons.
Brunson set the mark for the single-game assists record with 20 against Jarvis Christian in his junior season and also holds the No. 2 rank for single-game assists record with 16 against Huston-Tilltson in the same year.
Brunson was also a defensive threat, holding the No. 3 rank for the single-game steals record with six against UTSA his junior year.Â
