Bio
A transfer to St. Mary’s after playing her freshman year at Bellarmine, Jessica (Harbin) Maddern made an immediate impact on the St. Mary’s Women’s Golf team, earning Heartland All-Conference honors all three seasons, including Golfer of the Year as a senior in 2007, and winning individual medalist honors at the Conference Championship. Maddern finished in the top-25 a total of 26 times in her 28 tournaments, placing inside the top-10 17 times, including winning four tournaments and placing third at the 2007 NCAA West Regional in Austin. She went on to finish 18th at the NCAA Championship in Pensacola, Florida, shooting even par on the first day. Maddern was also a star in the classroom, earning Scholar-Athlete honors from the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) as a senior.
Currently:
Maddern remained at St. Mary’s after her graduation for three years, working as a development officer in the Advancement Office while she earned her Master’s in Communication Studies. She spent six years working in development and fundraising at Jesuit College Preparatory School, marrying Brad while there. In 2016, she began a residential real estate business, and Brad joined her in 2018. They are still working together today, expanding the business to include six team members and helping over 500 families find homes throughout Collin, Dallas and Denton counties.
Quote:
“The scholarship opportunities were everything for me. I was going to school full-time, playing golf and working the work-grant program for the financial aid I was receiving. It taught me hard work and appreciation, and gratitude that I still take with me today. I'm also extremely grateful for the classes at St. Mary's. It was the first time I was taught how to think! How to have discernment. How to think critically and get information from multiple sources before making decisions. Many of the classes I took still stick with me today, like philosophy of art and science, communication studies and many more that I use in my day-to-day life that have been instrumental in shaping me. As a student-athlete, I was taught about goal setting, striving, working hard and achieving those goals both individually and as a team. There were many amazing women golfers who came ahead of me who had strong reputations both in athletic and academic achievement, and overall strong moral character that I looked up to, even though they weren't in school there anymore. Learning from them and building on the foundation they laid was important to me. The lessons I learned in and out of the classroom have shaped who I am and how I lead our business and contribute to our family. I will be forever grateful.”
