Pitcher (1994-1997)
Aaron B. Carter is one of the most decorated student-athletes in the long history of the Rattler baseball program. He still owns many school pitching records for a single season and career. Carter played in 69 games with 53 starts while completing 33 games. His 43-7 career mark as a pitcher is still a school record while his 15 wins in 1996 remains the standard for a single season.
In his four years on the mound, he had a 2.17 earned run average which included a 1.23 ERA in 1996, both of which are all-time bests for St. Mary’s. Carter also owns three of top nine single-season ERAs. In 357 career innings, Carter struck out 389 batters, also an all-time best for Rattler baseball. Carter threw three no-hitters in his career, the most for any individual in St. Mary’s history.
For his play, Carter earned numerous honors, including NAIA All-American First Team, the Heart of Texas Conference Player of the Year in 1996 and All-Heart of Texas First Team three times. With Carter as a member of the team, the Rattlers won 156 games in four years, claimed the Heart of Texas Conference title three times and advanced twice to the NAIA College World Series.
After his eligibility at St. Mary’s, Carter was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 28
th round of the 1997 draft. He played in their minor league system from 1997 to 1999.
