Howarth's 1-over final round helps StMU to 5th place at DBU Classic

CEDAR HILL, Texas — A strong final round helped St. Mary's Women's Golf finish fifth at the Dallas Baptist Southwest Classic on Tuesday.

Allison Howarth (RS-So., San Antonio) led the Rattlers by shooting a 1-over-par 73 on Tuesday to finish tied for ninth place with an overall 152, helping the Rattlers climb a spot in the team standings after entering Tuesday's final round in sixth place. Teammate Kelly Contreras (Fr., San Antonio) also earned a Top 15 finish, finishing a stroke behind Howarth for 14^th place at the Tangle Ridge Golf Club.

Host Dallas Baptist won the tournament with a team total of 594. Newman's Courtney Zietsman took the individual title after shooting an even-par 144 following back-to-back rounds of 72.

After opening up with a first-round 79, Haley Keller (Jr., Pflugerville, Texas) shot 82 in the final round to finish with a score of 161 for 30^th place. Bailey Furgeson (Sr., Newcastle, Calif.) earned the final qualifying score at 162 to tie for 31^st.

Paola Diaz-Portela (Fr., San Juan, Puerto Rico) shot 192 (38^th place) for the tournament, while medalist Daryn Petermann (Sr., Comfort, Texas) shot 160 (t-26^th place).

As a team, the Rattlers shot 628, including 315 in the final round.

St. Mary's will return to the course on Monday, April 13, when the Rattlers will open play at the Tarleton State Invitational in Stephenville, Texas.
