WICHITA FALLS, Texas – All five golfers finished inside the top 20 as the No. 4 St. Mary's University Women's Golf team placed second at the Midwestern State Invitational on Tuesday at the Wichita Falls Country Club.
In the final round, the Rattlers matched their second round, shooting a 283 to move up one place into second with a three-round total of 870 (304-283-283/+6). They finished 27 shots off the lead of 843 by No. 1 DBU.
Not to be outdone by her classmate and friend, junior
Sabree Lefebvre (Riverview, Fla.) shot a career-low round of 67 on Tuesday, matching what
Sophia Perkins (Sydney, Australia) shot yesterday. Lefebvre collected seven birdies with only two bogeys over the final 18 holes to move 13 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for third place with 215 strokes (75-73-67/-1).
The 67 ties both Lefebvre and Perkins for ninth on the St. Mary's lowest single round list, and they are the fourth and fifth rounds in the 60s by StMU golfers this season through three tournaments.
Perkins finished the tournament tied for ninth place after shooting a 73 on Tuesday. The junior ended with 219 strokes (79-67-73/+3).
Senior
Taylor Wilczek (Anthem, Ariz.) golfed better every round, firing a 71 over the final 18 holes to move up five spots into a tie for 15th. She turned in a three-round total of 222 (79-72-71/+6).
Junior
Brielle Burns (Houston) and sophomore
Manon Verret (Toulouse, France) finished one stroke behind Wilczek, tied for 17th place with 223 strokes. Burns carded a 76 on Tuesday, while Verret shot even par for her lowest round of the tournament.
Junior
Gladys Taboada (Puebla, Mexico) was golfing in the tournament as an individual, and she also saved her best round for last, entering the clubhouse on Tuesday with a round of 77 to finish 46th with 236 (80-79-77/+20).
The Rattlers have one tournament remaining on the fall docket as they head to the Las Vegas Desert Invitational in Boulder City, Nev., from October 30 through November 1.
