Women's Golf places two in Top 10 for 4th place team finish

SAN ANTONIO — After a cold and rainy first day, conditions were more ideal for the St. Mary's Women's Golf Team as it finished up the 18-team Lady Rattler Invitational in 4th place Tuesday, shooting a team total of 652 with two Top 10 finishes.

The Rattlers' finished 27 shots behind leaders Dallas Baptist, who edged out rivals St. Edwards for top spot at the competition. Every St. Mary's competitor shot lower scores than their first day totals, and also all finished in the Top 50.

Leading the Rattlers for the second day running was Allison Howarth (RS-So., San Antonio) as she finished tied for fifth with her round 77. Kelly Contreras (Fr., San Antonio) showed an improvement of seven strokes from her first day total to finish with a 75, to tie for eighth overall in the competition.

Coming in tied for 43rd position was Haley Keller (Jr., Pflugerville, Texas) who carded an 82 on the day, five strokes better than her first round.

The final players making up St. Mary's overall total were Paola Diaz-Portela (Fr., San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Bailey Furgeson (Sr., Newcastle, Calif.) who shot identical scores of 84, bringing the team score to 318, 16 strokes below their first day total 334.

Winning the Lady Rattler Invitational for the second straight year was St. Edward's Haley Haught who shot the tournament's low round of 70 in the final round Tuesday, finishing with a final score of 149.

The Rattlers will be back on the course starting Monday when they travel to Austin, Texas To compete in the St. Edward's Invitational at the Onion Creek Country Club.
