Women's Golf records best season finish, places three in Top 20

AMARILLO, Texas — St. Mary's Women's Golf recorded three Top 20 finishes in their best season finish at the Lady Buff Stampede Tuesday, placing tied for fourth as team backed by a nine-stroke improvement from senior Bailey Furgeson.

As a team, the Rattlers carded a 620 for the two rounds, improving four strokes in the final round to card a team stroke count of 308 that included Top 20 finishes from Allison Howarth (RS-So., San Antonio), Furgeson and Kelly Contreras (Fr., San Antonio).

In the 15-team tournament, Furgeson (Newcastle, Calif.) jumped 13 spots in the player leaderboard after the final round of the Lady Buff Stampede to finish tied for 17^th place after carding two under par at 73 Tuesday, improving from an 82 carded in the first round.

Howarth led the Rattlers individually, tying for 13^th place after carding a 76 in each round. Like Howarth, freshman Contreras also showed steady play, carding a 78 for each round to finish in 20^th place, improving two spots from the first round.

Freshman Paola Diaz-Portela (San Juan, Puerto Rico) tied for 29^th place to finish with a stroke count of 163. Haley Keller (Jr., Pflugerville, Texas) finished tied for 38^th place.

Heartland Conference foe Newman took home the tournament with a team stroke count of 590 followed by West Texas A&M, Metro State and St. Mary's and Wayland Baptist which tied for fourth place.

Tying for first place individually for the tournament was Newman's Courtney Zietsman and Colorado State-Pueblo's Hee Leina Kim who both finished even par.

The Rattlers compete in the Dallas Baptist Invitational starting Monday in Dallas.
