Women's Golf finishes Top 5 once more, ties season-best at DBU Invite

DALLAS — St. Mary's Women's Golf held onto its Top 5 position in the final round of the Dallas Baptist Invitational Tuesday, finishing in fourth place to tie its season-best finish.
 
The Rattlers finished fourth out of the 17-team tournament, improving two strokes in the final round to end with a team stroke count of 616. Their fourth place finish ties their best finish on the season as it is their second straight tournament finishing in fourth place. So far this season, the Rattlers have made Top 5 as a team in all four of their tournaments to date.
 
Allison Howarth (RS-So., San Antonio) led the Rattlers with a fourth place finish after carding a 72 and 75 for the two rounds. Her fourth place finish at the DBU Invitational is her sixth career Top 5 finish.
 
Freshman Kelly Contreras (San Antonio) finished three strokes behind Howarth to record her second season, and career Top 10 finish, tying for eighth place with a final stroke count of 150.
 
Bailey Furgeson (Sr., Newcastle, Calif.) finished tied for 35th place followed by Haley Keller (Jr., Pflugerville, Texas) in tied for 49th place.
 
Paola Diaz-Portela (Fr., San Juan, Puerto Rico) finished with a final stroke count of 170.
 
Taking home the tournament was host school Dallas Baptist followed by rival St. Edward's in second place and Newman in third place. DBU won the tournament with a final team stroke count of 600.
 
Sydney Williams of DBU won the tournament, finishing four strokes under par.
 
The Rattlers competed their fall season at the DBU Invite and now will begin prepping for their spring, championship season.
