SAN ANTONIO — In the first fall tournament of the year for the No. 13 St. Mary's University Men's Golf team, the Rattlers are in 10th place at the first-ever Dewsweeper Invitational, hosted by StMU at TPC San Antonio.
Midwestern State holds a one-shot advantage over Cameron and Arkansas Tech headed into the final round on Tuesday morning. The Mustangs fired a two-round total of 572 (285-287), while the Aggies and Wonder Boys totaled 573 strokes on the par-72 course.
Southern Arkansas' Luke Cote holds a commanding lead on the individual leaderboard after firing a 65 in the second round. He is 11-under-par through 36 holes (68-65=133) with a seven-stroke lead over Anniston McIlwain from Midwestern State, Christian Yanovitch from Oklahoma Christian and Ludvig Haglund from Cameron.
The Rattlers improved by 10 strokes between rounds one and two. The team combined for 300 strokes in the opening round and shot a 290 in the afternoon. Three of the five Rattlers competing are freshmen.
Junior
Elijah Galvan (Austin, Texas) and freshman
Matthew Lewis (Arlington, Texas) are tied for the team lead and 21st place overall. Galvan opened with a 75 and came back in the afternoon to shoot a two-under par, 70. Lewis posted even par in the first round and was one-over par in round two for matching scores of 145.
Senior Philip Hallström (Gävle, Sweden) bettered his round by one, carding a 75 in round one and a 74 in round two and is locked in a tie for 37th place.
The two South African freshmen,
Fabrizio De Abreu (Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa) and
Daniel Levy (Johannesburg), are separated by one stroke. De Abreu took four shots off his morning round for a 74 in the afternoon and is tied for 51st place with 152 strokes, while Levy made a large jump, shooting a 73 in the second round after totaling an 80 in round one. He is in 54th place with 153 strokes.
The final round of the Dewsweeper Invitational will begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
