PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — For the second time in three years, the St. Mary's University Women's Golf team has advanced to Medal Match play at the NCAA Championship after finishing tied for third in stroke play.
The third-place finish is the highest ever in stroke play at the NCAA Tournament for the Rattlers, who entered ranked No. 14 by Scoreboard and 16 by the WGCA Coaches.
"Our ladies have been incredible these past three days," said Director of Golf
Connor McCarthy. "They've fought through weather conditions and a really tough course. We learned a lot about PGA National from playing here in the fall and did a great job of limiting our mistakes. I think the squad is really confident right now and I'm excited to see us compete again in medal match!"
StMU totaled 909 strokes over the 54-holes, shooting a 304 on the final day to move up two places into a tie for third with Findlay. Top-ranked Wingate won stroke play with 877 strokes, while No. 2 DBU finished second with 897 strokes.
Junior
Taylor Wilczek (Anthem, Ariz.) finished on fire, placing second with 216 strokes (70-76-70/E). She is the highest-ever individual finisher in school history, surpassing Estelle Beck's eighth-place finish in 2021. Wilczek recorded 37 pars and nine birdies through the 54 holes.
"Also, we are unbelievably proud of Taylor," McCarthy said. "She deserves this result after all the hard work she has put in."
Sabree Lefebvre (Riverview, Fla.) moved up one spot on the final day, carding a 77 to tie for 28th place. The sophomore collected 229 strokes over the 54 holes (81-71-77/+13).
Sophomore
Brielle Burns (Houston) had a little bit of a rough finish, posting an 80 on Thursday for a three-day total of 231 (76-75-80/+15).
Manon Verret, a freshman from Toulouse, France, climbed six places on the leaderboard in the final round, ending stroke play with 235 strokes (83-75-77/+19), while sophomore
Sophia Perkins (Sydney, Australia) moved up five places into a tie for 74th after totaling 243 (81-82-80=243/+27).
