SAN ANTONIO – For the second-straight day, a big inning by the opponent hurt the St. Mary's Baseball team as they dropped both games of a doubleheader to #17 Angelo State, 4-2 and 11-1.

The Rattlers (4-10, 2-10 Lone Star) kept things close in game one, a scheduled seven-inning contest, but an eight-run fourth inning in game two helped lift the Rams (13-3, 13-3 Lone Star) in the second contest.

St. Mary's has a short turnaround, playing at Texas A&M International on Friday at 2 p.m.

GAME ONE RECAP
In the closest game of the series, the Rattlers dropped a 4-2 decision and had the tying run on base in the bottom of the seventh.

Senior
Brandon Broughton (Corpus Christi, Texas) was 2-for-2 at the plate with a double after coming in as a defensive replacement in the top of the fourth inning and freshman
Jorge Cuevas (El Paso, Texas) was 2-for-3 with a run scored for the team's four hits in the game.

The Rams scored two in the first and the Rattlers got one back in the third. ASU added one run each in the fifth and the sixth. StMU scored one in the seventh, but was unable to push any more across the plate.

Senior
Steven Medrano (El Paso) gave up three earned runs on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts through 5.1 innings. Senior
Connor Schmidt (Devine, Texas) worked 1.2 scoreless innings, walking two and striking out two.

GAME TWO RECAP
Angelo State scored one run each in the first and second, but broke things open with an eight-run fourth and went on to win 11-1.

The Rattlers scored their lone run in the seventh inning. Senior
Jake Mares (Fort Worth, Texas) was hit by a pitch to lead off. He moved to second on a single to center by sophomore
Trey Guajardo (San Juan, Texas) and scored on a pinch hit single up the middle by senior
Shawn Tober (San Antonio).

Guajardo was on base all three times in the game, drawing two walks and singling in the seventh.

Dylan Bells (Regina, Saskatchewan) took the loss (1-2), while four other relievers saw action. Sophomore
Clay Bradford (Atoscocita, Texas), who played centerfield in game one, struck out two of the three batters he faced in the seventh for a clean inning.
