LAREDO, Texas – Despite a 3-for-3 performance from senior
Jake Mares and a 2-for-2 day by
Trey Guajardo, the St. Mary's Baseball team dropped a 13-3 contest in the first of a four-game series at Texas A&M International.

Guajardo, a sophomore from San Juan, Texas hit his first home run of the season and was on base all three times as he was also hit by a pitch. Mares, a senior from Fort Worth, Texas hit three singles and drew a walk to reach all four times.

Junior
Clay Bradford (Atoscocita, Texas) also had a 2-for-4 day with a double and a stolen base as the Rattlers scored three runs on 10 hits.

Sophomore
Brett Brown (Sinton, Texas) started his first game on the hill, lasting 1.2 innings to move to 0-1 on the season. He gave up six earned runs on seven hits with three walks. Sophomore
Andrew Girod (San Antonio) pitched the next 3.1 frames, allowing four runs on four hits with four walks and one strikeout. Sophomore
Karlo Kalifa (Round Rock, Texas) pitched the final two innings, surrendering two runs on four hits.

The Dust Devils improved to 8-11 with the win. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch for game one is slated for 1 p.m.
