Men's Soccer Sweeps Lone Star Weekly Awards

RICHARDSON, Texas -- The weekly awards continue to roll in for the St. Mary's Men's Soccer team as the Rattlers won offensive and defensive player, as well as goalkeeper of the week.

OFFENSIVE
Sebastian Rivera, St. Mary's, SR, Exercise & Sport Science, MF/D, Laredo, Texas, Lone Star HS

Rivera started at defender against UT Permian Basin in the Rattlers' final non-conference game of the season, playing 74 minutes and recording an assist in the 3-0 win. In StMU's opening conference game, the senior moved into the midfield and responded with a goal and two assists in a 5-0 victory over Eastern New Mexico. Against the Greyhounds, Rivera found Jalil Blalock for the night's first goal, then scored the second on a free kick from Cian Foley in the 58th minute. Just over four minutes later, he returned the favor, finding Foley open for the third score of the night. The five points for the week move him into a tie for the season lead for the Rattlers as 18 different players have between 1-5 points on the St. Mary's roster.

DEFENSIVE
Lewis Wilson, St. Mary's, SR, Communication Studies, DEF, Aberdeen, Scotland
Wilson and the back line for the Rattlers continued to dominate opponents, recording the sixth and seventh consecutive clean sheets of the year during a 2-0 week. Wilson played all 90 minutes in a 3-0 win over UT Permian Basin in the team's final non-conference game of the season. In the victory, the senior added a goal on a header from a 40-yard free kick. In the team's 5-0 win over Eastern New Mexico, Wilson anchored the defensive line for 78 minutes and registered a pair of shots from his center back position. St. Mary's has now gone 645 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal as they lead the nation with a 0.22 goals against average.

GOALKEEPER
Andre Schlaefli, St. Mary's, JR, Accounting, GK, Katy, Texas, Seven Lakes HS
Schlaefli made three saves in each of the team's wins last week, a 3-0 win over UT Permian Basin and a 5-0 league win over Eastern New Mexico. Against the Falcons, the StMU netminder made a crucial one-on-one save at 2-0 to preserve the clean sheet and halt a UTPB comeback. Schlaefli and the Rattlers' defense have shut out the last seven opponents, keeping them out of the goal for 645 straight minutes. The junior leads the conference and is second nationally with six shutouts. He was also in goal for the first 45 minutes in StMU's other shutout.
