SAN ANTONIO – On Senior Night at Sigma Beta Chi Field for the St. Mary's University Men's Soccer team, it was a sophomore who took center stage as
Kai Louviere scored a brace in a 3-0 victory over West Texas A&M.
Louviere, a forward from Hondo, Texas, scored back-to-back goals for the Rattlers for his fifth and sixth goals of the season. Louviere scored on a beautiful feed from
Sebastian Poblete (Veracruz, Mexico) in the 23rd minute, and then eight minutes later, found the back of the net again after beating a defender in the box for the 3-0 score.
Freshman
Mekhi Carwise (Nolanville, Texas) got the scoring started, as he took a cross from fellow freshman
Lewis Boney (Leeds, Yorkshire, England) and buried it the back of the net in the 15th minute for his second goal of the season.
The Rattlers honored seniors
Ricky Alvarez (Dripping Springs, Texas),
Filipe Bastos (Santa Maria de Faria, Portugal),
Pape Gueye (San Antonio),
Hagen Kyle (Jupiter, Fla.),
AJ Valdivia (Perris, Calif.) and
Axel Villegas (Cordoba, Mexico) before the game. All six saw action in the victory, with only Gueye playing all 90 minutes.
St. Mary's closes out the regular season at No. 5 Midwestern State on Wednesday at 7 p.m. A Rattler win would give StMU a share of the regular-season title, while a draw or a loss would make the Gold & Blue the third-seed at the upcoming Lone Star Conference Tournament.
