No. 5 Rattlers Battle to Fourth Place at DBU Women's Invitational

No. 5 St. Mary's finished in fourth place at the DBU Women's Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. The Rattlers opened their season by playing in the 36-hole event in North Texas amidst the sweltering Texas heat.

St. Mary's fought hard and found themselves in second place following the first 18-holes. The Rattlers were just five strokes behind the Patriots' first team after shooting a team score of 299 (11-over par).

The second round, however, proved to be more challenging as the Rattlers battled the golf course. StMU finished their second round at 18-over and claimed fourth place in the event.

In the individual competition, the Rattlers were led by Junior Rebecca Reed. Reed shot back-to-back rounds of 72 to finished at even par and in 3rd place overall. Rebecca collected five birdies throughout the afternoon and led the Rattlers in par 5 scoring at 3-under par.

Sofia Ruescas also finished inside the top ten, claiming T7 with three other players after rounds of 73 and 76 (5-over par).

"Obviously we were not at our best this week, but we come away with a lot of data to learn from. We'll head back home now and get to work tomorrow to be better for the next one."

UP NEXT
The Rattlers will come home and practice for two weeks before returning to North Texas to battle DBU and company once again in the DBU Classic. The first round will tee off at 8am on Monday, September 20th from Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch in Denton, Texas.
