Head Coach Kevin Driggs and the Rattlers begin their exhibition schedule on the road on Sunday evening when they take on UTSA at 7 P.M. Driggs began their preparation for the season by signing the largest recruiting class in Rattlers history. The impressive 19-member class provides a blend of local talent and international signings, giving the Rattlers an exciting boost heading into their championship season.
One season ago, Driggs and company installed a new team on the field despite COVID-19 affecting everything from schedules to eligibility. The Rattlers finished 5-6 in the regular season and advanced to the Lone Star Conference Tournament where they beat Texas A&M International 2-0 in the first round.
Although there are a number of new faces on the team, the veteran leadership will lead StMU as the Rattlers look to take the next step in 2021. Leading goal scorers Alexis Lawrence, Kylie Von Holle, Miranda Narvaez, and starting goalkeeper Cameron Koerner all return. Their contributions will be critical as the Rattlers look to shake up the Lone Star Conference this fall with a combination of speed and finesse.
The Rattlers have a loaded schedule that will send them on the road against St. Edward's, DBU, and Lubbock Christian this season. Meanwhile, highlights of the home schedule include hosting reigning LSC champion Angelo State, West Texas A&M, and UT-Tyler on Senior Day.
HEAD COACH KEVIN DRIGGS ON THE SEASON
"I'm looking forward to the depth we have on our roster. Mixing in the new signees with the veterans on this roster will really help us build what was established last season. We have lofty goals for this season. Not only do we want to make the playoffs this season, but we want to position ourselves to compete for a LSC title. Academic excellence is also a priority. We want to compete on the field, but we have also created a standard in the classroom that we want to maintain."
