RICHARDSON, Texas – The second annual Lone Star Conference Athletic Performance All-Conference Team was announced on Friday with 24 student-athletes honored by league officials.
As Blake and I were considering people for this award, it was an extremely difficult process," said St. Mary's Sports Performance Coach, CJ Richardson. "With the unique challenges of this year, we tried to be very aware of those athletes who made an exceptional effort to keep themselves in shape throughout the difficult situations we found ourselves in. I want to applaud the softball team in general for their commitment throughout the summer."
The St. Mary's female recipient was
Bari Christian of the softball program.
"For a number of reasons, we felt Bari really stood out," continued Richardson. "Her work ethic and competitiveness is unbelievable, and she really developed as a leader as well. She has really taken a big step forward athletically, and it's showing up on the field for her."
On the men's side,
Deni Cresto of the Men's Soccer program earned the honor.
"Deni was our choice for several reasons. Interestingly, he did not even train with us in the fall, as he was stuck in Brazil," noted Richardson. "However, I saw how hard he was working on social media and we were in communication with him as he was preparing to return to campus. Deni truly understand the full-time commitment it takes to be at your best. I really struggle to think of a college athlete I have been around who is as disciplined as Deni when it comes to doing the little things right to take care of his body."
The all-conference team recognizes student-athletes who excel in work ethic, dedication to process, attendance, communication, leadership and growth. The individual awards are voted upon by the league's athletic performance staff.
