Golf Lands Three Rattlers on Lone Star All-Conference Teams

SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's University Golf placed three on the Lone Star Conference (LSC) All-Conference teams as announced by the league office on Wednesday.

Emilio Gonzalez, who was named the 2020 LSC Golf Player of the Year, picked up his second straight Conference Player of the Year award as the San Miguel, Mexico was named the 2019 Heartland Conference Player of the Year. 

This adds to a long list of accolades for Emilio. Gonzalez finished the shortened season ranked second in the region and fifth in Division II and was named to the PING All-Region team as well as a PING All-American selection for the third straight year. Gonzalez earned six top five finishes in seven tournaments including a first-place finish at the Las Vegas Desert Invite. In 20 rounds, the senior held a 70.85 stroke average. 

Gonzalez and junior Ryan Dixon were both named to the All-Conference First Team. Dixon climbed up the rankings all season, finishing the year ranked seventh in the region and 22nd in Division II. The Blackhall Colliery, England native earned four top 10 finishes this season, including a runner-up finish at the Hilltopper Fall Classic. In what would be the final tournament of his junior season, Dixon finished in a tie for fourth at the Las Vegas Desert Invite. Dixon was second on the team in stroke average per round at 72.35. 

Junior Sofia Ruescas was the final selection for the Rattlers, making the All-Conference First Team for the women. Ruescas, a junior from San Sebastián de los Reyes, Spain was named St. Mary's Female Sports Performance Athlete of the Year and a National Strength and Conditioning (NCSA) All-American in recognition of achievement in the development of improved athletic performance through strength and conditioning excellence. She led the Women's Golf team with a 75.17 stroke average and was ranked 11th in the Region and 58th in all of NCAA Division II.
