PALM HARBOR, Fla. – The St. Mary's University Men's Golf team finished in eighth place at the Copperhead Championship, hosted by Saint Leo at the Innisbrook Resort on Monday and Tuesday.

The Rattlers saved their best round for last, posting a three-over 283 in the final round to climb one spot on the leaderboard and end with a three-round total of 859 (285-291-283/+19) to finish 27 strokes back from winner, Florida Southern. StMU was the only Lone Star Conference team in the tournament, finishing in the middle of the 17-team tournament.

Freshman Matthew Lewis (Arlington, Texas) led the team for the second time in three tournaments, finishing tied for ninth place at one-under-par on the par 70 course. Lewis shot a three-round total of 209 (69-72-68/-1) and was one of only two first-year student-athletes to finish in the top 10. He jumped 18 spots on the leaderboard in the final round with his 68.

Junior Elijah Galvan (Austin, Texas) finished in a tie for 28th place after shooting a 215 (71-71-73/+5) over the two days, one of nine players in the tournament to finish with 215 strokes.

Freshman Fabrizio de Abreu (Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa) was one shot behind Galvan, finishing with 216 strokes (70-73-73/+6) to end in a six-way tie for 37th place. Fellow South African Daniel Levy (Johannesburg) ended the tournament on a high-note, shooting even par on Tuesday to jump 16 spots to tie for 63rd place with 222 (75-77-70/+12), and senior Philip Hallstrom (Gavle, Sweden) bettered each round by three strokes to tie for 77th place with a total of 225 (78-75-72/+15).
