NORMAN, Okla. — Division II PING All-Region honorees have been announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Players across eight regions – East, Atlantic, Southeast, South, Midwest, South Central, Central, and West – earned all-region honors for 2020.
Senior
Emilio Gonzalez and junior
Ryan Dixon represent the St. Mary's Golf team on this year's South Central All-Region team.
"Obviously we're all so disappointed with this season being cut short but these awards are certainly reflective and well deserved for the boys," said St. Mary's Director of Golf
Thomas Kearney. "These accolades are always wonderful recognition of the great work done but also creates more passion and excitement to keep getting better."
Gonzalez, the San Miguel, Mexico native earns his second straight PING All-Region selection after finishing the shortened season ranked second in the region and fifth in Division II. "Yet again, Emilio proved that he was one of the best golfers in the region and indeed the country," continued Kearney. Gonzalez earned six top five finishes in seven tournaments including a first-place finish at the Las Vegas Desert Invite. In 20 rounds, the senior held a 70.85 stroke average.
Dixon climbed up the rankings all season, finishing the year ranked seventh in the region and 22
nd in Division II. "Ryan was able to elevate himself to another level this season and continues to grow and develop in his career," stated Kearney. The Blackhall Colliery, England native earned four top 10 finishes this season, including a runner-up finish at the Hilltopper Fall Classic. In what would be the final tournament of his junior season, Dixon finished in a tie for fourth at the Las Vegas Desert Invite. Dixon was second on the team in stroke average per round at 72.35.
