Gonzalez, Ruescas named First Team All-Heartland

WACO, Texas – St. Mary's golfers Maria Regina Gonzalez and Sofia Ruescas earned All-Heartland First Team honors.
 
This is the fourth, All-Heartland First Team honor for Gonzalez. The senior finished the regular season with four top-four finishes and six top-ten finishes. The San Miguel, Mexico native also brought home two first-place individual finishes: one at the Dallas Baptist University Women's Classic, and another at the St. Edward's University Invitational. Over the course of 11 tournaments, with 25 rounds played, Gonzalez averaged 73.44, and 1.6-over-par. She also added 21 wins over top-20 ranked players.
 
This is the first All-Heartland First Team honor for Ruescas, who finished the regular season with four top-four finishes and six top-ten finishes. The San Sebastian De Los Reyes, Spain native led the Rattlers at the Heartland Conference Championship, with a tie for the third-place finish on the individual leaderboard. The sophomore carded 72-75-71 to end that tournament at two-over 218. Throughout 11 tournaments and 25 rounds, Ruescas averaged 74.60, and 2.76-over-par. She also added 14 wins over top-20 ranked players.
 
DBU led the way with four All-Heartland selections followed by St. Mary's, Oklahoma Christian and St. Edward's who each had two.

Up next, the No. 15 ranked Rattlers have been selected to participate in the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Regional Championships. The super-regional will be held May 6-8. All participants will compete through 54 holes. The top four teams, along with the top four individuals not with a team from each super regional, will advance to the championships. The championships will be held May 14-18 at PGA National Resort and Spa in West Palm Beach, Florida. The number of participants that qualify for the finals is 96.
