Gonzalez named player of the year; 2019 All-Heartland Men's Golf Team announced

WACO, Texas – St. Mary's Emilio Gonzalez has been named the Heartland Conference Player of the Year for the second-straight season following a vote of the league coaches.
 
Junior Emilio Gonzalez was named the Player of the Year after putting together another top season picking up two tournament wins of his own while helping lead the Rattlers to three team wins and nine top-three finishes this season. The junior's stroke average of 70.55 is nearly a full stroke lower than the next lowest player in the conference this season. His low round of 65 is tied for the third-lowest round in the Heartland this season. Gonzalez is currently ranked No. 32 in all of Division II and is the first player to win back-to-back Player of the Year awards since Sam Johnston accomplished the feat in 2015 and 2016.

Texas A&M International rookie Santiago Garcia was voted the Freshman of the Year, and Oklahoma Christian head coach David Lynn was named the Coach of the Year.
 
Texas A&M International's Santiago Garcia picked up Freshman of the Year honors after completing a top-20 performance among conference golfers in his rookie season. Garcia finished 20th in the conference in stroke average at 74.03. Garcia also helped lead the Dustdevils to a tournament win at the Houston-Victoria Invitational in the fall.
 
Oklahoma Christian head coach David Lynn was named the Coach of the Year for the third time in the Heartland Conference and for the first time since 2016. Lynn has led the Eagles to a No. 13 national ranking this season and the first Heartland Conference title since OC joined the league in 2013. Oklahoma Christian has five tournament wins so far this season.
 
St. Mary's and Oklahoma Christian both earned three spots on the All-Heartland Team followed by St. Edward's with two. Rogers State, DBU and Texas A&M International all had one All-Heartland member. Joining Gonzalez on the first team were teammates Jake Stevenson and Ryan Dixon along with Oklahoma Christian's Trevor Norby and Andres Brictson, and TAMIU's Parker Holekamp.
