LAKEWAY, Texas – The St. Mary's Men's Tennis squad fell 4-0 to No. 27 ranked conference rival St. Edward's on Sunday at the World of Tennis complex in Lakeway.
The men started off with doubles play, having a good start to the day with the sophomore duo Alex Gee and Sai Konakanchi sweeping their opponents 6-1 on court No. 3. On the top court, Jose Antelo and Jeremiah Gonzalez fell in a close match to Anish Sriniketh and Chase Bartlett 6-4. The clinch for the doubles point came down to court No.2, with sophomore Brendan Brown and redshirt junior Bojan Popovic in a tight match. The pair were 5-3 down and were able to rally their way back, making it 5-5. The No. 2 duo were unable to pull out the match, dropping the set 7-5 and St. Edwards had a lead of 1-0.
In singles action, the Rattlers were unable to pull any matches out. The No. 3 of Bonnay, No. 4 of Antelo and No. 6 Brown courts were all swept in straight sets, in that respective order, which clinched the overall match for St. Edwards 4-0. Bojan Popovic was in the lead on the No. 2 court, winning the first set 6-4 and had a 2-1 lead against Chase Bartlett before the match was clinched. Jerimiah Gonzalez lost the first set in a thriller tie-breaker (7-6) but was unable to finish the match.
