@StMaryTXGolf Women rule at Lion Invite

POTTSBORO, Texas — For the second time in three tournaments, the St. Mary's Rattlers sit atop the leaderboard, winning the Lion Invite, hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce.

Entering the day at the Tanglewood Resort tied for first with Newman, the Rattlers improved on their opening day score by four strokes, finishing the tournament shooting a 649 as a team, edging out the Jets by four strokes.

The Rattlers were led by the final round surge of Kelly Contreras whose second round, 7-over par 79 placed her alongside teammate Allison Howarth, tied for sixth individually. Howarth matched her opening round score of 82 on the final day for a total of 164.

Maria Regina Gonzalez continued her fantastic play, landing another top-5 finish, tying for second after shooting 15-over for the tournament. Paige Weiss had another solid outing finishing fifth overall following a second round 80.

Next week the Rattlers will travel to Wichita Falls, Texas for the Midwestern State Invitational.
