Gonzalez wins 4-hole playoff for St. Edward's Invitational title

AUSTIN, Texas — St. Mary's Maria Regina Gonzalez made a tap-in putt for par in the fourth hole of a thrilling playoff to capture the individual title at the St. Edward's Women's Invitational on Tuesday. 

Gonzalez, a sophomore from San Miguel, Mexico, outlasted Tarleton State's Sarah Gee in the playoff, as Gee bogeyed the fourth hole to set up Gonzalez's par for the victory. 4595

Gonzalez shot 141 for the tournament, including a 1-over-par 73 Tuesday, to help the Rattlers take second place as a team at the Onion Creek Club. Dating back to the fall semester, it marks the Rattlers' fourth consecutive finish of third-place-or-better. 

For Gonzalez, it is her second tournament victory in two years, as she also won the West Texas A&M Invitational as a freshman in the fall of 2015.

A week after winning the Rattler Invitational, Paige Weiss finished tied for 13th following a strong finish of 73 in Tuesday's second and final round. Allison Howarth also earned a top-20 finish, coming in tied for 19th with a two-round total of 150. Kelly Contreras was just a shot back at 151 for the two-day tournament, tying for 23rd. Ana Bonilla shot 165 to finish tied for 66th.  

The Rattlers will be back in action on March 6, when they compete at the Texoma Chevy Dealers Intercollegiate in Pottsboro, Texas.
