St. Mary’s win rain-shortened Rattler Invitational

Weiss claims first career individual title

SAN ANTONIO — In the first tournament of 2017, and for the second straight year, the St. Mary's Rattlers have won the Rattler Invitational at The Dominion. This comes after the final round of play was canceled due to an overnight downpour that dropped around 1.5 inches of rain, resulting in the course being deemed unplayable.
 
The Rattlers were named co-winners alongside Northeastern State with both teams carding a 299 for the tournament.
 
Paige Weiss collected hardware of her own, winning the individual title with a stellar 2-under par, 70. For Weiss, this is the first-ever victory of her career at St. Mary's.
 
Maria Regina Gonzalez tallied her fourth consecutive top-10 finish with a 3-over par 75.
 
Allison Howarth finished tied for 12th, her best finish of the year, with a 4-over par 76 while Kelly Contreras fired a 78 and Mackenzie Thayer posted an 89 for the tournament.
 
For St. Mary's, this marks the second victory of the season, its first coming at the West Texas Lady Buff Stampede in October.
 
Next week, the Rattlers will travel to Austin, Texas for the St. Edward's Invitational.
