Women's Golf soars to 3rd behind trio of top-15 finishers

SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's Women's Golf soared up the standings at the final round of the Mustang Intercollegiate, securing a tie for third place Saturday at the Palm Valley Golf Club.

The Rattlers shot 292, bettering Friday's total by seven strokes, to finish at 591 — one stroke behind second-place finisher Northeastern State. Tarleton State won the 24-team tournament at 579.

Haley Keller paced the Rattlers, finishing tied for seventh place after shooting 145 on the strength of Saturday's 71. Allison Howarth was one stroke back at 146, tying for ninth.

After shooing a team-best 72 in the opening round, Maria Regina Gonzalez shot 76 in Saturday's final round, finishing tied for 15th. Kelly Contreras shot 74, improving upon Friday's 78, to tie for 36th. Paige Weiss shot 161 for the tournament.

St. Mary's will finish up regular-season competition at the Doc Housewright Invite, held April 11-12 in Granbury, Texas.
