GRANBURY, Texas — On the final day of the Doc Housewright Invitational, Allison Howarth secured the individual title by one stroke while leading St. Mary's to a second place finish in the 12-team field.

The Rattlers as a team shot seven-over for the final round as they fell seven strokes back of eventual winner, and host, Tarleton State.

"It was a good all-around team effort," head coach Chris Massoletti said. "Tarleton is a really good team and they played solid, especially on their home track."

Entering the final round with a two-stroke lead, Howarth fired a one-over par 73 as she netted her second career win as well as her second straight top-three finish at the event.

"Allison played really, really boring golf," Massoletti said of Howarth's performance as she tallied a trio of birdies, one bogey and 32 pars.

"She did a great job of keeping the ball away from danger and relied on her short game when she got in trouble," he added.

Howarth becomes just the fifth Lady Rattler to claim multiple individual tournament victories. In addition, her first round 69 is the second best round by a Rattler, the lowest coming in the second round of the 2015 West Texas A&M Invitational where teammate Maria Regina Gonzalez carded a six-under 66.

"(Allison) played a very smart and simple tournament," Massoletti said. "Her boring golf wins tournaments."

Six strokes behind Howarth was Gonzalez as she finished the tournament four-over par following a second round 75 which placed her tied for seventh on the leaderboard.

"Those that didn't play well yesterday," Massoletti added, "bounced back and played well today."

With a final round 73, Kelly Contreras improved on her first round score by two strokes as she moved up seven spots to finish tied for 11th.

Also finishing strong was freshman Paige Weiss whose final day two-over par 74 placed her tied for 21st.

Following an impressive team showing, the Rattlers now set their sights on the Heartland Conference Tournament that will begin on Monday, April 18 in Marble Falls, Texas.
