Women's Golf wins WTAMU Invitational

AMARILLO, Texas — Kelly Contreras, Paige Weiss and Maria Regina Gonzalez each posted top-six finishes to lead St. Mary's Women's Golf to the team championship at West Texas A&M Invitational.

Contreras and Weiss tied for second place, and Gonzalez finished sixth as the Rattlers shot 611 at the Tascosa Country Club. St. Mary's beat second-place finisher Midwestern State by eight strokes. 

Contreras shaved seven strokes off her opening-round score with an even-par 72 on Tuesday, and Weiss shaved nine strokes off her first-round score with a 71 to lead St. Mary's in the final round. The pair shot 151 for the tournament, four strokes behind Redlands CC's Emily Coleman.

Maria Regina Gonzalez finished a single stroke behind at 152 following a final-round 78. Allison Howarth carded a 75, tying for 18th place, while Ana Bonilla shot 175 for the tournament. 

The Rattlers will close out their fall season next Monday and Tuesday, when they travel to Dallas to play at the DBU Fall Invitational.
