Women’s Golf denied top spot on final day of DBU Classic

DALLAS — In it's final tournament of the fall season, St. Mary's finished strong at the Dallas Baptist Classic, placing second out of 15 teams. It marks the third consecutive 2nd place finish for the Rattlers, dating back to the WNMU Invitational in September.
 
Once again leading the Rattler charge was freshman sensation Maria Regina Gonzalez and sophomore Kelly Contreras. Gonzalez (Fr., San Miguel, Mexico) and Contreras (So., San Antonio) both finished tied for 5th on the individual leaderboard, shooting a 141 for the tournament.
 
Gonzalez led the Rattlers in the final round with a 3-under-par 69 while Contreras shot an even-par 72. Paige Weiss (Fr., Huntsville, Texas) had a strong final round with an even-par 72 placing her in the top 30 while Allison Howarth (R-Jr., San Antonio) and Haley Keller (Sr., Pflugerville, Texas) each fired an 83.
 
The Rattlers held a two-stroke lead over Newman entering Tuesday. But it was host Dallas Baptist making a move with an impressive final round, erasing a four-stroke deficit to edge St. Mary's.
 
The Rattlers will now set their sights on the spring season, which will begin on Feb. 15, 2016 when the host the St. Mary's Lady Rattler Invite.
