SAN ANGELO, Texas —Redshirt sophomore
Allison Howarth has begun right where she left off last season, finishing third in the Angelo State Concho River Classic in her fourth career Top 5 finish and first on the season Tuesday.
Howarth (San Antonio) led St. Mary's Women's Golf to a fifth place team finish out of nine teams competing in its first tournament on the season. The reigning Heartland Conference Freshman of the Year carded a 73 and 74 for the tournament's two rounds, helping the Rattlers post a team score of 628.
Freshman
Kelly Contreras (San Antonio) fared well in her first collegiate tournament, tying for 16th place after carding a 75 and 81.
Fellow freshman
Paola Diaz-Portela (San Juan, Puerto Rico) tied for 23
rd place in her first collegiate tournament after carding an 82 and 79, followed by
Haley Keller who finished tied for 29
th place.
Senior
Bailey Furgeson (Newcastle, Calif.) finished in 43
rd place.
Heartland Conference foe Newman won the tournament with a team score of 606 followed by Tarleton State, St. Edward's and Midwestern State.
Tying for first place individually was Tarleton State's Isabell Jimenez Perea and Casey Wild who both finished with a final score of 145.
The Rattlers start the Western New Mexico Invite on Mon., Sept. 22 in Silver City, NM in their next competition.
