WICHITA FALLS, Texas — St. Mary's Women's Golf improved 13 strokes in its final round of the Midwestern State Invitational Tuesday, jumping up to finish fifth in the stacked tournament.
The Rattlers were in sixth place after carding a 320 in the first round, played Monday, slicing their count to 307 in the final round to place fifth in the 17-team tournament that had three Rattlers finish Top 15.
Newcomer
Haley Keller (So., Pflugerville, Texas) had a career performance that helped place the Rattlers in high standing, breaking the 70s for the first time this season.
Keller shot a career-best 78 in the first round that placed her 12
th only to improve four strokes and shot a new career-best a day later in the final round at 74 to finish with a career-high tied for sixth place.
Allison Howarth (RS-Fr., San Antonio, Texas) also improved between rounds, jumping from 33
rd place to 15
th place after carding an 82 and 75.
Bailey Furgeson (Jr., Newcastle, Calif.) finished tied for 13
th place while
Heather Wedige (So., San Antonio) finished tied for 44
th place.
Dallas Baptist won the tournament with a team stroke count of 606 followed by Midwestern State and West Texas A&M while Glory Jangthongsiri of West Texas A&M won the individual title after finishing one stroke under par at 143.
The Rattlers play their final regular-season tournament at the Dallas Baptist Golf Classic starting Mon., March 30 in Horseshoe Bay, Texas.
