Furgeson propels Rattlers, finishes in career-best seventh place

POTTSBORO, Texas — Backed by a superb second day performance from Bailey Furgeson, St. Mary's Women's Golf jumped up two spots to finish fifth in the Texas A&M Commerce Texoma Chevy Deals Lion Intercollegiate Tuesday.
 
Furgeson (Jr., Newcastle, Calif.) improved six strokes in the second day of the tournament, carding a 77 to finish with a career-best tied for seventh place in her second career Top 10 finish.
 
As a team, the fifth-place Rattlers had a team stroke count of 682 in the 14-team tournament, which was won by Cameron with a team stroke count of 643.
 
Heartland Conference contenders UA Fort Smith and Rogers State finished second and third, respectively.
 
Cameron's Katlyn Johnston took home the individual title after shooting 75 and 80 over the two rounds.
 
Rattler Haley Keller (So., Plugerville, Texas) finished tied for 24th place with a stroke count of 171 followed by Heather Wedige (So., San Antonio) who finished tied for 37th place.
 
Daryn Petermann (Jr., Comfort, Texas) and Gabriella Villarreal (So., Rio Grande City, Texas) finished 46th and 58th, respectively.
 
The Rattlers tee off in the Midwestern State Invitational in their next tournament, starting Monday in Wichita Falls, Texas at The Champions Course.
