ODESSA, Texas — The opportune time for Ivan Sigala to smack his first hit in St. Mary's three-game series against the University of Texas-Permian Basin started a rally to break open a tie in the Rattlers' last at-bat Saturday.

A three-run ninth inning for No. 10 St. Mary's sealed the final game of the series with the Falcons, as the Rattlers won 5-2 for their second series sweep on the season.

A trio of successive singles from Sigala (Sr., El Paso, Texas), Nathan Humpal (Jr., Corpus Christi, Texas) and Derek Hamilton (Jr., Lake Jackson, Texas) brought in the victory with Hamilton's liner and a Falcon error bringing home Sigala and Humpal to break the tie, 4-2. Jan Paul Reguero (RS-Fr., Aquadilla, Puerto Rico) reached on another Falcon error to bring Hamilton across for the final run to improve the Rattlers to 8-3 on the season and 7-2 in Heartland Conference action.

Matt McClain (So., San Antonio) struck out eight for the third time in as many appearances, pitching 6 1/3 innings Saturday. Coming in to a tie ballgame 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth, closer Jonathan Perez (RS-Sr., San Antonio) retired all four of his batters faced with one strikeout to pick up his second win on the season. Perez also recorded his second save on the season in Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader.

The Rattlers scattered nine hits against the Falcons' (2-8, 0-6 in conference) pitching staff with Derek Moczygemba (Sr., Bulverde, Texas), Hamilton and Adrian Garcia (RS-Jr., El Paso, Texas) all recording two hits apiece. Brandon Bates (Sr., Boerne, Texas) recorded one hit and one RBI Saturday, ending his three-game series with the Falcons with six hits and five RBIs.

The three-game triumph over the Falcons comes after the Rattlers' unexpected three-game losing streak and will keep them going at home to face non-conference Tarleton State University Tuesday at Wolff Stadium at 3 p.m.
