No. 8 Men's Golf Improves by 10 Strokes in Round Two

STOCKTON, Calif. — The No. 8 St. Mary's University Men's Golf team improved upon its first-round score by 10 strokes in the second round of the NCAA West/South Central Regional to move into a tie for 14th with one round remaining.
 
The Rattlers shot the sixth-best score in the field on Friday, entering the clubhouse at one-under 287, and sit 19 shots off the lead with a two-day total of 584 (297-287/+8). Western Washington and West Texas A&M are tied for the team lead with 565 strokes.
 
Individually, Conrad Brown from Western Washington holds a one-shot lead at eight-under over a trio of golfers who all have 137 strokes through two rounds.
 
Senior Philip Hallström (Gävle, Sweden) and sophomore Guillaume Paquette (La Minerve, Quebec) are locked in an eight-way tie for 47th place at 146 strokes. Hallström made a big jump from day one, firing a 69 on Friday, while Paquette shot the opposite, turning in a 69 on Thursday and a 77 on Friday.
 
Senior Kongpop Kaikaew (Rayong, Thailand) posted back-to-back rounds of 74 and is tied for 59th at four-over par.
 
Sophomore Elijah Galvan (Austin, Texas) posted the biggest drop in score between rounds, carding a 70 on Friday for a two-day total of 150 (80-70/+6) and a tie for 76th.
 
Senior Baptiste Touchard (Saint-Agathon, France) also improved upon his first round, shaving three strokes off for a 74 and a two-round total of 151 (77-74/+7), and he is tied for 84th place.
 
The final round of the tournament begins on Saturday, May 9. The top six teams from the regional and the top two individuals from a non-qualifying team will advance to the NCAA Championship, which will take place May 18-22 at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.
