PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — The No. 16 St. Mary's University Women's Golf team dropped a 3.5-1.5 decision to No. 9 Cal State San Marcos in the quarterfinals of Medal Match Play on Friday at the NCAA Championship at PGA National.
Sophomore
Brielle Burns (Houston) won by two strokes over Ellaclair Leedom. Burns shot a 77, taking a one-stroke lead on the first hole, hole 10. She built a three-stroke lead after five holes, but Leedom clawed back to take a one-stroke advantage on hole 2 (11th of round). Burns tied the match back up with a par on the fourth hole and took the lead on the sixth hole after hitting par.
Sophomore
Sophia Perkins (Sydney, Australia) and her opponent, Avery Foster, each recorded rounds of 79 to tie the match. Perkins erased a five-stroke deficit over the final seven holes, securing the half-point for the Rattlers.
Sophomore
Sabree Lefebvre (Riverview, Fla.) was unable to complete her round and was five-over through six holes, giving Kiara Hernandez a three-stroke victory in match two.
Junior
Taylor Wilczek (Anthem, Ariz.) carded a 79 to lose by two strokes to Abby Sickles and freshman
Manon Verret (Toulouse, France) shot an 81 for a six-stroke loss to Carmella Carlisi.
The Cougars advance to the semifinals to face off against their second-straight Lone Star Conference team in DBU, while top-seeded Wingate and Anderson (SC) are in the other semifinal.
The Rattlers wrap up the season after an amazing run that saw them win the Lone Star Conference Tournament, finish tied for third in NCAA Stroke Play and tie for fifth in Medal Match play.
