ROCKWALL, Texas — St. Mary's University sophomore
Guillaume Paquette continued to show why he's one of the best young golfers in the Lone Star Conference, finishing fourth at the Lone Star Conference Championship on Tuesday at the Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club.
Paquette, who hails from La Minerve, Quebec and was named to the LSC All-Conference Second team on Sunday, earned All-Tournament honors after carding a three-round total of 219 (76-71-72/+3). He moved up four spots in the final 18 holes to become the third Rattler to be named to the All-Tournament team, joining Ryan Dixon (2022) and
Philip Hallström (2025).
Despite having the second-lowest round on Tuesday, the No. 9-ranked Rattlers were unable to move into the top four on the final day of stroke play, finishing fifth overall with 901 strokes (308-297-296/+37). StMU finished 11 shots off the lead, as UT Tyler posted a tournament low round of 293 on the final day to jump into first place.
The Patriots, Cameron, West Texas A&M and Midwestern State are the four teams who advance to Medal Match play on Wednesday.
Hallstrom (Gävle, Sweden) made a massive jump up the leaderboard on Tuesday, carding a one-over 73 to climb 21 spots into a tie for 13th place, improving his score in each round to end with 226 strokes (78-75-73/+10).
Senior
Kongpop Kaikaew (Rayong, Thailand) moved up eight spots to finish tied for 17th, one stroke behind Hallstrom at 227 (75-77-75/+11).
Junior
Connor Smith (The Hills, Texas), who was called in as a substitute for round two, carded an 83 to end his two rounds with 157 strokes (74-83) and tied for 27th place. The computer system uses his second-round score as his first-round score for placement.
Sophomore
Elijah Galvan (Austin, Texas), also rose on the leaderboard in the final round, shooting a 76 to bump up eight places into a tie for 39th. Galvan finished his second LSC Championship with 233 strokes, improving each round (79-78-76/+17).
The Rattlers will wait for word on a berth to the NCAA West/South Central Regional, which is scheduled for May 7-9 at the Stockton Golf & Country Club in Stockton, Calif.
