No. 16 Women's Golf Heads to Lone Star Conference Tournament

Lone Star Conference Championship • April 20-21 (Stroke Play) • April 22 (Medal Match Play)

•    The St. Mary's Women's Golf team moves to postseason play, beginning with the Lone Star Conference Championship. The first two days will consist of stroke play and the top four teams from that will compete in medal match play on Wednesday. All rounds will be held at the Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club for the second-straight year.

•    The Rattlers wrapped up the regular season with a fifth-place finish at the Lynn Invite at Boca Woods. The team shot a three-round total of 902, and they had two individuals in the top 10 as Taylor Wilczek was fifth and Sophia Perkins finished 10th.

•    The Rattlers have finished in the top five in each of the five tournaments of the spring, and are currently ranked fourth in the NCAA Regional rankings.

•    The 13 teams competing in the LSC Championship are #44 Angelo State, Cameron, #2 DBU, Lubbock Christian, #23 Midwestern State, #16 St. Mary's, Texas A&M International, Texas A&M-Kingsville, UT Dallas, UT Permian Basin, #7 UT Tyler, #27 West Texas A&M and Western New Mexico.

•    The Rattlers lineup is 1) Taylor Wilczek, 2) Brielle Burns, 3) Sabree Lefebvre, 4) Sophia Perkins and 4) Manon Verret.

•    The Rattlers will golf with DBU, UT Tyler and Midwestern State for the first two rounds. The teams will begin on holes 1-4 for the 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.

•    Skies are supposed to be cloudy  all three days with thunderstorms likely for Wednesday. Temperatures should be in the low 80s on Monday and Tuesday, and drop to the mid 70s for day three. Winds should be from the south between 16-18 mph all three days.

•    Junior Taylor Wilczek is now only 18 birdies shy of 200 in her StMU career, while the next birdie for sophomore Sophia Perkins will be her 100th. Wilczek is also 23 holes of par away from 600, entering her 20th tournament with the Gold and Blue. 

•    Four golfers have posted a career low tournament in one of the last three tournaments, as Abbey Anderson (230) and Gladys Taboada (226) both shot career lows at the Rattler Invitational, while Brielle Burns (215) and Manon Verret (220) both went low at the Emerald Coast Collegiate.

•    Sophomore Sabree Lefebvre was named the Lone Star Conference Golfer of the Week after her eighth place finish at the Texas State Invitational. She finished one under par at 215 (73-70-72), taking 11 strokes off her previous 54-hole tournament best.

•    The Rattlers are ranked No. 16 in the WGCA Poll that was released on April 10. Lone Star Conference foe and defending national champion, DBU is second, while UT Tyler is 6th, and Midwestern State is 24th. Wingate continues to rank atop the poll with all 19 first-place votes. This is the 19th consecutive poll the Rattlers have been ranked.
