BOCA RATON, Fla. — Another solid round on Tuesday by the No. 17 St. Mary's University Women's Golf team saw the team finish in fifth place at the Lynn Invite at Boca Woods in the final regular season tournament of the season.
The Rattlers have now finished in the top five in each of their last seven tournaments and turn their attention to the postseason as they compete at the Lone Star Championship in two weeks.
St. Mary's posted a round of 299 on Tuesday to finish the tournament with 902 strokes (311-292-299/+28). Lone Star rival and No. 2-ranked DBU won the tournament with 880 strokes, while Youyang Li from Rollins won the individual title, after firing a 67 in the final round to get the crown.
No. 10 Nova Southeastern, No. 19 Rollins and No. 16 Tampa finished ahead of the Rattlers, while six other teams in the WGCA Coaches Poll finished with higher totals than the Gold and Blue.
Junior
Taylor Wilczek (Anthem, Ariz.) led the Rattlers with her fifth-place finish, the fifth time this season she's ended in the top 10. Wilczek totaled 221 strokes, shooting a 74 on Tuesday (77-70-74/+5).
Sophomore
Sophia Perkins (Sydney, Australia) posted the first top-10 finish of her collegiate career, placing 10th with 223 strokes (75-71-77/+7). The 71 from round two ties her career low.
The biggest mover of the day was freshman
Manon Verret (Toulouse, France), who carded an even-par 72 in the final round to end tied for 29th place. She jumped up 15 spots to end with 229 strokes (80-77-72/+13).
Golfing about 3.5 hours from her hometown of Riverview, Florida, sophomore
Sabree Lefebvre shot a 76 in the final round to tie for 38th place (83-74-76=233/+17), and sophomore
Brielle Burns (Houston) rounded out the team with her second consecutive round of 80 to finish 53rd overall (79-80-80=239/+23).
The Lone Star Conference Championship begins on April 13 with stroke play. The top four teams will advance to medal match play, which will take place on April 15. For the second straight season, the tournament will be held at the Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club.
