SPRING, Texas — Saving its best round for last, the St. Mary's University Women's Golf team climbed two spots on Tuesday during the final round to finish third at The Southern Invite at Cypresswood Golf Course.
The Rattlers shot a 297 (+9) on Tuesday to move past Rogers State and Henderson State into third place with a three-round total of 907 (305-305-297/+43). UT Tyler won the tournament (882/+18), while DBU was second (896/+32), and the Rattlers were three and six strokes better than the top two teams today, respectively.
UT Tyler had three of the top four individuals, including Lucy Kate Smith, who won the tournament with a 218 (72-72-74/+2), defeating Central Oklahoma's Estela Castillo by two strokes.
Junior
Taylor Wilczek (Anthem, Ariz.) led the Rattlers, finishing tied for seventh with 223 strokes (73-77-73/+7). She climbed five spots on the final day by recording 16 pars and one birdie. Wilczek was three-under par in par-5 scoring to lead the 80-player field.
Sophomore
Sabree Lefebvre (Riverview, Fla.) jumped up three spots on the leaderboard to finish tied for 16th place with her three-round total of 227 (75-76-76/+11). Fellow sophomore
Sophia Perkins (Sydney, Australia) tied with Midwestern State's Kodi Nolen for 26th place. Perkins shot a 229 (78-74-77/+13) over the two days.
Sophomore
Brielle Burns (Houston) was the big mover for the Rattlers, climbing 22 places after firing a one-under par round of 71 on Tuesday. She ended the invite with 230 strokes (81-78-71/+14) to finish one spot behind Perkins in a four-way tie for 28th. Burns birdied her final two holes and had six birdies on the day.
Gladys Taboada (Puebla, Mexico), golfing as an independent, was consistent over the three days, collecting 233 strokes (77-78-78/+17) in her first tournament of the season.
Freshman
Manon Verret (Toulouse, France) moved up three spots into a tie for 45th place after taking two strokes off her first two rounds with a final round of 77 (79-79-77=235/+19).
The Rattlers host the annual Rattler Invitational, beginning on Monday, Feb. 23, at the Dominion Country Club.
