CORINTH, Texas — The first tournament of the season was cut to 36 holes due to rain on Monday morning, and the St. Mary's University Women's Golf team finished tied for eighth in the 15-team field at Oakmont Country Club.
The Rattlers, ranked 12th in the WGCA Preseason poll, recorded a 593 (295-298/+17) at the DBU Fall Classic to knot Saint Leo for 8th place. No. 1 DBU was the only team to finish under par, winning its own tournament with a two-round total of 566 (284-282/-10). No. 17 UT Tyler finished second at even par.
Madison Ude from DBU won the individual title, shooting a nine-under-par 135 to win by four strokes over North Georgia's Cora Mount.
Two birdies in her final four holes lifted sophomore transfer
Brielle Burns (Houston) into a tie for 25th place, as she turned in a round of 73 for a two-day total of 147 (+3). Junior
Taylor Wilczek (Surprise, Ariz.) added one stroke for a two-round total of 148 (73-75/+4) to tie for 31st place, and freshman
Manon Verret (Toulouse, France) was one stroke back with a 149 (71-78/+5), finishing tied for 36th.
Verret finished tied for sixth with a one-under on par-3 scoring, while Burns was four-under on par-5 holes to tie for the fourth-best in the tournament. Wilczek also tied for third, carding 28 pars in the 36 holes.
Sophomore
Sophia Perkins (Sydney, Australia) shaved two strokes off her Monday total for a 152 (77-75/+8) to tie for 53rd place, while
Sabree Lefebvre (Riverview, Fla.) made the biggest jump, taking three strokes off her first-round total of 78, to end tied for 60th place with a total of 153 (78-75/+9).
Freshman
Abbey Anderson competed as an individual in the tournament, tying for 67th place with her total of 155 (75-80/+11).
The Rattlers head to Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., to compete in the Division II National Preview on Oct. 6-7.
