RICHARDSON, Texas — In a vote of the Lone Star Conference Athletic Performance Coaches, St. Mary's University had a pair selected to the All-Conference teams, the league announced Wednesday.
The women's honoree for the Rattlers is Volleyball junior
Laurene Robinson, while junior
Luke Mulkey from men's soccer garnered the men's award.
Robinson was leading the team with 3.23 kills per set and hitting .258 as an outside hitter before suffering a season-ending injury. She didn't let that slow her work ethic and attendance in the weight room, as she continued to be a vocal leader on the team, pushing her teammates to get better every day. Robinson has worked extremely hard to return to pre-injury form as she continued to work hard on her core and upper body throughout, even going to the weight room at non-team times, while healing from the injury. She is also extremely involved in the university's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Named the Lone Star Conference Defender of the Year and to the LSC All-Conference First Team, Mulkey helped the Rattlers win the regular season title by playing every minute of the entire season. He won the team's Iron Man competition and serves as a leader both on and off the field with his attention to detail. Mulkey does the extra work to ensure he's at his peak condition to maximize his performance in every single training session and game. Besides looking after himself, he pushes his teammates to do the same, which helps establish a high-standards culture in the group. He is also a two-time Academic All-District selection and a 2024 D2CCA All-Region First Team pick.
The LSC Athletic Performance Athletes of the Year awards were presented to Sam Phipps, a men's basketball student-athlete at UT Tyler and Aylene Lucero, a senior softball student-athlete at Eastern New Mexico.
